Making art is instinctive for me and it all begins by wandering and wondering while observing nature. I try to move from inspiration to composition to finished work quite quickly, in order to capture my response to nature. I hope you enjoy looking at my art and get something from it. Much of my original work is for sale....please enquire.
I primarily paint with oil or acrylic, and produce hand-cut collages. My inspiration stems from my curiosity with the entangled miniature worlds I find in nature. You'll certainly find here paintings of birds but my compositions also reflect what I see in my imagination. Imagination is as important as observation in my work, and I feel my best work reconciles both.
The reoccurring natural elements in my paintings - birds, snails, entangled branches, stunted trees etc - are combined with dreamlike elements which suggest themselves during the development of each painting...it's like the work takes on a life of its own.
How do birds see their world - that world of undergrowth and unlimited sky? This is a series of paintings of birds, based on studying their form and behaviour, combined with imagined insights into the parallel worlds inhabited by nature.
